Similarities and Differences between Electron and Proton Transfers at Electrodes and in Solution. Theory of a Hydrogen
نویسنده
چکیده
Depending on the initial energies, a proton transfer may proceed either via a saddle-point in a potential energy surface or by crossing from the reactants' to the products' valley before the saddle-point is reached. In the second path the analogy to weak-overlap electron transfers is pointed out. The present study is intended to unify previously divergent viewpoints, by showing how they are special cases of a more general picture. Expressions are obtained for the reaction rate in terms of the properties of the potential energy surface and of other properties of the system, using a hydrogen evolution reaction as an example. *Contribution No. 6006. t Supported by a contract from the Office of Naval Research.

Computational study of the intramolecular proton transfer between 6-hydroxypicolinic acid tautomeric forms and intermolecular hydrogen bonding in their dimers
This paper is a density functional theory (DFT) calculation of intramolecular proton transfer (IPT) in 6-hydroxypicolinic acid (6HPA, 6-hydroxypyridine-2-carboxylic acid) tautomeric forms. The transition state for the enol-to-keto transition is reported in the gas phase and in four different solvents. The planar and non-planar dimer forms of 6HPA keto and enol, respectively, were also studied i...
متن کاملEffect of temperature on kinetics of the hydrogen evolution reaction on Ni-P-C cathodes in alkaline solution
The kinetics of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) was studied in 1M NaOH at various temperatures (298 to 358 K) on Ni-P-C (composite electrodes. The electrochemical efficiency of the electrodes has been evaluated on the basis of electrochemical data obtained from the steady-state polarization Tafel curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) in 1M NaOH solut...
متن کاملRoom Temperature Hydrogen Sensor Based on Single-Electron Tunneling Between Palladium Nanoparticles
In this paper, we present the results of single-electron tunneling in two-dimensional (2D) hexagonal closed packed arrays of palladium nanoparticles. After inspecting the emergence of Coulomb blockade phenomena, we demonstrate the possibilities of using these arrays as a single-electron tunneling based hydrogen sensor. We assumed arrays of palladium nanoparticles with diameters of 3.5 and 6...
متن کاملPreparation of BaCe0.9Yb0.1O3-δ asymmetrical membrane for hydrogen separation at high tempratures
A mixed proton–electron conducting perovskite was synthesized by liquid-citrate method and the corresponding membrane was prepared by pressing followed by sintering. The hydrogen permeability of BaCe0.9Yb0.1O3-δ was studied as a function of temperature and hydrogen partial pressure (PH2) gradient. Using 100% dry hydrogen at 1173 K, the hydrogen permeation rate of dense membranes (1.63 mm thick)...
متن کاملA New Colorimetric Azo-azomethine Probe for Fluoride Ion Detection Based on the Proton Transfer Signaling Mode: Real-life Applications
Four novel receptors were designed and synthesized for colorimetric detection of F− ions. The introduction of four electron withdrawing groups into the backbone of the receptors makes the two phenolic groups efficient hydrogen bonding sites. The binding properties of receptors with anions were examined for the first time by UV–Vis, 1H NMR and fluorescence spectroscopies. The addition of F− resu...
